Dogs have masters, cats have staff. Ahh, how true.
My former cat Maybelline (why caint you be true?), was the epitome
of everything truly annoying about cats. Do I like cats? Well, the answer seems to be that cats like me? Why?
No clue. They rub up against me and I rub their ears and they're hooked. On me.
Then then leave a huge batch of unwanted hair on my lap as a memento of our time together.
Maybelline shed like crazy and also sat on any paperwork I had on my desk. From that came "Paper Tiger".
She woke me up every morning before I even had a chance to pee. She was the inspiration for my signature piece
"Demando Cat" which has been a consistently great seller since the late 1980s. More cat images came after that and the cat lovers were lined up,
anxiously waiting to get their favorite print from me.
"What Do You Mean You're Seat?" was based on the eternal truth that cats always take the best seat in the house. "Excuse me, I live here."
"You Don't Have Cats, Cats Have You" was another truth and that's what made my cat art so popular. I was funny about cats
and it was also the truth.
I will add more cat images to my portfolio over time. My new original, "A Cat With Attitude, Is Redundant." My cat originals have sold quite quickly it seems.
Finally, after my wife Elaine became fed up with Maybelline's antics and the huge volume of hair deposited all over, she wangled a great deal. We had a long time friend of hers visiting and Maybelline took a shine to him. And vice versa. When he remarked how much he liked her, Elaine sprang into action, "Why don't you take her home with you to Memphis? She'd like it there." (pause to see if the bait was taken).
"Really? ", he asked, "Wouldn't you miss her?" Stifling a huge laugh, she remarked, "No I can see she'd be happier with you."
Epitaph: 4 months later the friend called and said that he and Maybelline were fast friends. One thing, 'though he said, "Did you know she
sheds a lot?"
